TRANSCEND

What is Transcend?
Transcend, a bi-annual magazine focuses mainly on providing a forum for Muslim youth to explore the myriad of controversial and divisive issues facing our world today, is produced by the Shifa Student Society, a group of medical students (studying at the Shifa College of Medicine in Islamabad, Pakistan) trying to make a difference by raising awareness about the realities of our Deen and its relation to and practice in the contemporary world. We titled it 'Transcend' because Inshallah, that is what we are aiming for: to transcend all the confusion and all the falsehoods surrounding us and reach the greater good, the bigger reality, Islam.

The magazine is mainly targeted towards the audience we belong to and that which we interact with in our daily lives—the youth. Worldwide—but especially in countries like Pakistan, where we are taught that we are a “Muslim nation,” but we are not taught how to be Muslims—we see that everyone has  their own brand of the religion. Amidst this confusion is our youth, and hence our effort to clear out the haziness a bit and define what we truly are.

For this purpose, Alhumdulillaah, we have been blessed by the help of many kind mentors who guide us and have agreed to collaborate with us on our magazine Insha'Allaah. Amongst these are:
·Dr. Muzaffar Iqbal, founder of the Center for Islam and Science, Canada, and editor of the journal Islam and Science
·Mufti Kamaluddin Ahmed, visiting faculty at the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Lahore University of Management Sciences
·Dr. Waqas Ahmed, consultant cardiologist, Shifa International Hospital

Several of the above scholars write in these issues along with other younger voices writing on such topics as the sin of backbiting, the importance of hope, and the need for a revitalizing force in Muslim society.
