Please read the following before signing up for any event. Incomplete forms or any violation of rules may result in disqualification!
We would like to give thanks and all credit to our brothers and sisters at Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament from whom most of our registration package is based on. Jazakallaah khairan!
REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS What you should know before you register: ➢ Each team should choose a team leader, who may be a competitor on the team or otherwise (e.g. teacher), based on the qualities of responsibility and maturity. The team leader’s job description includes: ● Ensuring that team members are registering before the deadline and that each member is signed up for the correct competitions on the team sign-up sheet. ● The SIST Staff will contact none other than the team leader, through email or phone, for all updates on events and confirmation of details. ● The team leader will function as his/her team’s chaperone i.e. he/she will be responsible for all of his/her teammate’s behaviour throughout the entire tournament. It will not be the SIST staff’s responsibility to discipline the students. All problems will be addressed to a student’s team leader directly. ● All concerns a student has at SIST regarding fairness of rules etc must be communicated to the team leader’s manager (a member of the SIST staff) only through the concerned student’s team leader. Other students may not bring these issues directly to the SIST staff on the days of SIST. ● The team leader will be the contact in case of an emergency or if the other students need to be reached by their parents or guardians. ● Teams will not be able to check-in at SIST unless their team leader is present. ➢ As part of the registration process, each team must create a team name. ➢ Before registering, carefully read our Putting Your Team Together & Registration Steps sections and the Rules and Restrictions section, which has information such as age restrictions, dress code, leaving the tournament early, venue rules, etc. All students must be familiar with these rules and follow them. Failure to follow tournament rules may result in disqualification. ➢ Please keep visiting our website http://ww.shifastudentsociety.com/ for all the latest updates on registration details, event information, speakers and schedule details.
PUTTING YOUR TEAM TOGETHER Schools/ Colleges/ Universities 1. Each team must consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 15 students. More than 1 team may register from the same institution. 2. Try convincing your institution’s administration to sponsor SIST as an official extracurricular activity. 3. If your institution does not let you participate under its banner, you may still register as a private team.
Privately Educated Students Home schooled/ privately educated students may also participate either by forming their own team of a minimum of 3 students from ages 13-25 or by contacting us at scmconference@gmail.com so that we can help in arranging a team for you.
**Students who have already completed their education may also participate provided they are under 25 years of age. You will need to show proof of this by showing your ID (driver’s license/national identity card). Students below the age of 13, who understand the nature of the competition and that they would be competing against individuals much older than themselves, may also contact us at scmconference@gmail.com for permission to participate. Granting of permission will be at the sole discretion of the SIST staff. Such participants would be subject to the same rules and restrictions as everyone else meeting the age requirements.
REGISTRATION STEPS The following instructions are for your team leader. Be sure to read the reminders on the initial registration page prior to reading these instructions. 1. If the SIST organizers have not already contacted your institution, take the Institution Permission Letter (included at the end of the registration package) to your institution’s administration for their approval of your team’s participation in SIST. Your SIST team must be open to all those who are interested in joining from your institution, Muslim or otherwise. 2. Allow each student to go over the Category Overview and Rules for each competitive event in order to choose which events to participate and compete in. These are available in full detail for each event at our website http://ww.shifastudentsociety.com/ which you must visit regularly for updates or changes in events’ rules, as well as updates on speakers and scheduling details. 3. Popularize and promote SIST throughout your institution (contact us through the contact numbers and email address provided at the end of this document for advertising material) and try to get as many members from your institution to join your SIST team. Your team may include students from outside of your institution provided they meet the age requirements as outlined above. 4. No more than 2 students per team may sign up for each of the competitive events with the exception of the group competitions and a few single competitor events. It is absolutely necessary that you keep track of this on the Team Sign-up sheet (included at the end of the registration package) to prevent confusion, both for us and for yourselves. 5. All competitors younger than 18 years of age by January 1, 2014 are individually responsible for getting permission from their parents to participate in SIST and must submit the Parent Permission Letter (included at the end of the registration package) to their team leader. While we will do our best to ensure everyone’s safety at the event, SIST committee will not be held responsible for any accident that may happen during the event or in preparation for the events. 6. Two weeks before the tournament, SIST committee will send each team leader a Confirmation Letter that will confirm all the students’ registration information and the competitions that they have registered for. If a mistake has been made or the participant desires any changes in event participation, the team leader must contact SIST immediately via email. No changes will be accommodated after January 20th. If any student decides after the said date to not participate in the competition that they originally registered for, their team will receive a zero for that event, which will affect the Team Average. Make sure students register for competitions that they will participate in.
Registration Checklist: 1. Team Sign-Up Sheet 2. Institutional Consent Form (for those representing their institution) 3. Parent Consent Form (for those under 18 years) 4. Registration Fee (Rs. 500 for team registration, and then Rs. 100 per participant (the sum to be paid together)) Last date for Registration - 15th January, 2013
