CATEGORY I: THE ARTS
PHOTOGRAPHY
The purpose of this category is to encourage artistic expression of Islamic concepts, teachings and thoughts through the medium of a camera.
THEME: Revive the Light Within; Let the Change Begin
The following is a list of rules and procedures for this competition. Failure to fulfill these obligations and/or any violation of them may result in point loss or disqualification from the tournament.
Competition Guidelines:
1. Be as creative as possible, but please ensure your photography conforms to Islamic guidelines. Depiction of human or animal figures not allowed in any form except for silhouettes or shadows. Please use your best judgment, and if in doubt, send an email to scmconference@gmail.com for approval of your ideas. Abstract photography is definitely encouraged. Have fun with it!
2. Maximum 2 members per team are allowed to participate in this event. This competition is not a joint effort. Each competitor must submit his/her own separate piece of work.
3. You may bring photos that you have taken in the past or take new photos just for this competition. However the photos should not have been used in a previous competition.
4. Please limit your submissions to 1 photo per person (size 8X10), unless you choose to submit small photos (e.g. 5x7’’), in which case, you can bring up to 2.
5. All artwork must be properly labeled with the name of the participants, institution and team.
6. All entries are to be submitted on the 9th February (first day of event). A written/typed explanation (not more than one A4 page) of the photograph MUST be submitted with the photograph.
7. TIP FROM THE JUDGES: Stick to the theme, consider different angles and heights etc while taking your photograph.
8. Editing/retouching of the pictures will cause you to lose marks. Remember, enlarging a picture may cause it to become grainy and lose detail, so keep the quality of your work in mind while enlarging your picture.
9. If participants want to take their artwork back with them then they should inform the event managers at least an hour before the competition is over; otherwise it will automatically be assumed that the participant has surrendered possession of their artwork to the SIST Committee.
No requests for returning of the artwork will be entertained after the competition is over. The work will be considered abandoned property and ownership rights will be transferred to the SIST Committee.
