Below is a list of rules and procedures for this category. Failure to fulfill these obligations and/or violation of them may result in loss of points and possible disqualification from the tournament.
Competition Guidelines:
1. A minimum of 1 member and a maximum of 5 members can participate in this event from each team. Contestants may form groups only from within their original SIST teams.
2. Each team should select a team captain whose job will be to select questions from the jeopardy board after consultation with his/her team-mates.
3. Teams must report to the designated jeopardy room/area at least 10 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin.
4. The game will consist of two rounds. Round 1 will be played jeopardy-style while Round 2 will be a rapid-fire session.
5. In Round 1, five categories, each found with a description at the end of the jeopardy rules, will be on display before the contestants. Each category will have a column of point values in increasing order of magnitude beneath it.
6. The team captains of the 4 teams—chosen arbitrarily to go first—select a category and point value from the jeopardy board. For example, a team captain could say, “Prophetic Medicine for 300 please.”
7. The host/moderator then reads out the assigned question behind the point value to the team selected to answer first, referred to as Team A here for the purpose of description. Contestants must wait until the host finishes reading the clue before answering; doing so before this point results in the team losing its turn and the question being passed on to the next team, Team B. Failure to respond to answer the question within a 30 second limit after the host has finished reading the question also causes the question to go the next team.
8. If the team is able to answer the question within the time-limit, the point value of the question is added toward their final score. Nothing less than the complete right answer will be accepted as correct.
9. If the team is unable to answer the question within the time-limit or answers incorrectly, the question is put to the next team in line. If Team B answers correctly within the time limit, the point value of the first question is halved and awarded to Team B. If Team B is also unable to answer the question correctly, the judge reads out the correct answer and precedes the question originally selected by Team B and the game continues as before.
10. Only the 2 teams with the highest scores will qualify for Round 2.
11. Round 2 is the rapid-fire round in which, over a span of only 2 minutes, questions that can be answered by a simple yes or no or by a single word are put to both teams separately. Questions are thus asked in rapid succession until the 2 minute time limit for the round is up. The team to accumulate the most points by the end of round two is declared the winner.
