CATEGORY IV: MISCELLANEOUS

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT

Competition Guidelines:
This competition is a team effort.

A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people can register for this competition. Only one submission will be allowed per SIST team.

The following is a list of rules and procedures for this category. Failure to fulfill these obligations and/or any violation of them may result in point loss or disqualification from the tournament.
1.     Each participating team must conduct a community service project that reflects this year’s theme and addresses at least one problem that afflicts the local community. Here are a few ideas but you are not restricted to these.
·        Rising up to your responsibility: fighting poverty
·        Fight for literacy: Fight for the future.
·        Clean and Green Pakistan

2.     Each team must have a student director, but all team participants should be involved in presenting the project to the judges.
3.     Each team must have an organized Power Point presentation which depicts their community service project. Institution name and Team name should be included in the Power Point at some point.
4.     Presentation by every team should be no longer than 5-7 minutes.
5.     Participants MUST submit an abstract (250 words or less) of their plan for the project at least 2 WEEKS prior to the date of the SIST tournament for approval by the SIST Committee.
6.     Participants must also submit 2 copies of a typed Project Outline on the day of the tournament along with the community service project.
7.     Project ideas must be original and innovative. If you do something that’s been done many times before, you must think outside the box and make it unique. Try to think on these lines: how can you creatively get your community invested in your efforts to make a bigger impact in people’s lives while you race to reach your target about the project.
8.     Your community service project cannot be a 1 day or a 3 hour project. It must span a long period of time and benefit a community at large.
9.     Remember, good deeds, no matter how great, will carry no weight on the Day of Judgment if the intentions behind them are not for the purpose of pleasing Allah 'Azza wa Jall alone. The purpose of this competition is not to showcase one’s achievements to the people in order to prove one’s greater capability, but rather, to inspire and encourage one another to come up with better and more effective ways to serve the people and to prove that such lofty goals are in fact doable.
10.    Judging Criteria will be based upon the official SIST Community Service team.

By entering this competition you are giving SIST permission to publish your work on its website and in all forms of promotional material, electronic, print or otherwise. You maintain copyright ownership to your work and are responsible for its content.

Project Outline:
The following is a list of requirements for the Project Outline:
1.     Copy of typed project.
2.      Cover page with the title of the project and Team name, stapled on the side.
3.     Executive Summary: A summary of your project, outcomes and problems, no more than a few paragraphs long.
4.     Purpose: What would you like to see achieved through this project? State each goal your team has in mind. What problem(s) in our community will it take a step towards solving?
5.     Procedure: How do you plan to reach this goal? List all the steps you think will be involved in order to accomplish your goal. Who will be involved, and in what ways?
6.     Data: Anything you would like to show us or explain can be displayed on your Power Point presentation. Include who was involved in the project, along with what everyone did.
7.      Conclusion: How did the actual procedure differ from what you originally planned? What were some obstacles that you faced?
8.     Discussion: How was the project integral to Islam and Muslims? How does it relate to this year’s SIST theme (Revive the Light Within; Let the Change Begin)? What are some ways in which you would like to expand this project in the future?

Checklist:
·        Written abstract (250 words or less) of the desired project 2 weeks prior to the date of the SIST tournament for approval by SIST committee.
·        Two (2) copies of a typed Project Outline on the day of the tournament.
·        Power point presentation which displays the project.
