ANASHEED [Brothers’ & Sisters’]
Anasheed is vocal music sung in praise of Allah 'Azza wa Jall, His Prophet (SAW) or has a good message that is either sung a cappella (voice only) or accompanied by percussion instrument called the daff. The purpose of this competition is to educate the youth about the teachings of Islam through one of society’s most influential mediums and allow them to produce aesthetically pleasing acoustics in conformity with Islam.
There will be separate competitions for brothers and sisters. Hence, your Nasheed group must either be all male or all female. All competitors must be prepared to perform in front of an audience.
Males will be kept out of the Sisters Anasheed performance; however, the brothers’ performances will be open to all viewers.
THEME: Revive the Light Within; Let the Change Begin
Competition Guidelines:
1. Nasheed groups may consist of a MINIMUM OF 1 AND MAXIMUM OF 4 MEMBERS. All members of a group must be from the same SIST team.
2. MAXIMUM 2 performances are allowed per team. These 2 performances can be:
I. Solo and Solo;
II. Solo and Group; or

5. The ONLY instrument that can be used for the performance is the daff (a one-sided drum).
Remember to be creative! Non-instrumental sound effects such as clapping, humming etc are permitted. Groups must bring their own props as none will be supplied by the SIST management.
4. The lyrics of the anasheed must be submitted at least 1 week before the start of the tournament for approval by the SIST Committee, along with a short, typed explanation (about half a page long) about why the Nasheed was composed/ selected.
