Act of Kindness

"A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim Book 1, Hadith 211)
The entire being of a Muslim is a culmination of kindness. His every limb and structure is committed to serve others in his community; the advice or knowledge he gives to others, helping others in a difficult situation, or his body language and facial gestures when talking to someone. Each action should be made with good intentions in order to reduce the likelihood of others experiencing any discomfort. Even a smile is a commendable act of kindness!
It is a Muslim’s moral responsibility to be a source of comfort and positivity to others, in other words, be charitable to others as “Every act of kindness is Sadaqah”. Simple actions such as removing a rock from the road, obeying your parents’ simple commands, showing interest in a conversation, not backbiting, and advocating for human rights can make a huge difference in others’ lives that is beyond one’s expectations.
‘Others’ can include one’s self as well. When you are good to others, it ends up relieving you from discomfort and making you feel better and fulfilled as well. In addition, one needs to nurture and be kind to one’s self too, perhaps primarily, as one person is as important as every person. Furthermore, how can one be kind to others if he is unable to care for himself?
Let us rekindle the spirit of kindness and charity together at SIST 2020 where we remind ourselves of the grace of caring, respecting, helping and supporting others to maintain a healthy, supportive and vibrant community and also never forget to show kindness to ourselves as members of this community. It will be a weekend full of speakers, events, competitions and most of all, people from all over Pakistan bringing their own ideas of what it means to be kind with them!
